Pro-Am HISTORY
The WOTT All Female Pro-Am started in 2018, as the Ladies Pro-Am, full details of the first 2 events can be found on our current website, but also on the original website HERE.
Women, enjoy competition as much as men, and in some cases even more, however the opportunity for women to play in Pro-Am’s, was, and still is limited, mainly due to the cost being quite prohibitive, while we love great golfing experiences, we are also quite canny in how we spend our money.
Women golfers are a very supportive lot, with many women volunteering with clubs, county’s and national amateur events and teams, however there was limited opportunity for Women Golfers to play with and support female Professional Golfers. At the time, there was limited opportunities for WPGA professional women golfers to play each other on an individual basis, this changed in 2021, with the launch of the new WPGA schedule.
With this in mind, Julie, WOTT founder, approached, Dubravka Griffiths of Burhill Golf Club, who enlisted the support of Sam Smith at the PGA, and together worked to create and launch the first all female Pro-Am in the UK.
The team’s remit was to create a professional event with a great player experience, which was accessible to women golfers of different standards, who wanted to play in and support aspiring and established WPGA professional women golfers, The event and player prize fund had to pay for itself with the player entry fees, which needed to be affordable. Amateur prizes were donated by sponsors and a Burhill member, sponsored the first players breakfast.
The video of the day can be found HERE.
