WOTT & Brenda King Foursomes

Another busy week at Women on the Tee

As we get going we thought now would be a good time to give you more background on the inspiration behind Women on the Tee, and introduce you to Julie, the catalyst behind WOTT.

Our inspiration
Brenda King and the team who took over organising her legacy Foursomes, were the inspiration to get Women on the Tee off the ground.

Brenda King, was the inaugural winner of the 1981, British Open Senior Amateur Women’s Championship, who went on to represent England in 1984, 1985 and 1986, and campaigned to get recognition for senior women golfers, setting up the English Senior Ladies Association.

The Brenda King Foursomes, BK4’s, a 2 day senior women’s foursomes event was setup to honour Brenda and her commitment to Senior Women’s Golf, up until 2019, this was part of the England Golf Senior Women’s Schedule. When England Golf decided they would no longer include BK4’s in their annual schedule, a group of passionate women golfers, decided to take over running the competition, and in 2020, 70 pairs of senior women golfers from across England, came together to play at Minchinhampton, making it the largest field for a number of years.

The 2021, BK4’s, will be played at Wollaton Park in Nottingham, entries opened for the 80 places, on the 1st March and over 65 pairs have signed up – to get your entries in please click on the logo or HERE.

Julie, the catalyst behind WOTT, was asked to help with creating a website, and this provided a new insight into women’s senior golf and the lack of opportunities, not only for senior women but for women of any age, to play competitive golf regionally and nationally outside of the club and county structure.

Inspired by the Brenda King team, and their passion for golf and the enthusiasm of the women who played in the Brenda King Foursomes in Oct 2020,  Julie, our catalyst, decided to set up a survey in November to find out if there was an appetite for more women’s golf, both senior and mid amateur.  The results of the survey and the feedback for WOTT so far demonstrates that there is both an appetite and enthusiasm for more regional and national competitions, across the UK and potentially internationally.

Our Catalyst
Julie, returned to golf just over 7 years ago, when she started working from home full time, she played club and team competitions against other clubs, and a number of open days, which meant taking time of from work to play.  She started to look around to find information and other golf opportunities, both of which are out there, but not easy to find or learn about.  With a background in customer experience, business development and marketing, she came up with the idea to create new golfing opportunities for women golfers, and create a website which brings golf information together in one place.

To hear more from Julie and learn about her vision for Women on the Tee, she has recorded a video to introduce herself, you can watch it HERE

While Julie is the catalyst, there is a small team of experienced Senior Women Golfers providing advice, feedback and working with the host venues, to create the schedule and the overall Women on the Tee experience, online and on the fairway.
